For most people who know about The Crucified (www.myspace.com/thecrucifiedofficial) they were one of the most influential bands in Christian punk / metal / hardcore scene through out the 80's and into the early 90's. Every kid who was in a band wanted to be like them (myself included), cover there songs and just down right looked up to them. For me The Crucified was more then just a band....they were my childhood and youth!!
I am the middle of three boys. Wayne is my older brother by almost 6 years which meant me and Billie grew up with his friend coming around the house and some of these guys were people he went to Grace Community Church with there in Madera,Ca and high school with. A couple of these guys were Greg Minier and Jim Chaffin. I came to know Mark Salomon when I was a little older but I knew Mark as Mark Cooksey. The truth is these were not guys in a band to me but guys that put up with me cause I was Wayne's little brother.
I remember when I was younger Jim drove this VW Fastback and if memory serves me correct he would stay in car when he would come to pick Wayne up because my dad would give him a hard time....Truth is these were just Wayne's cool friends.
Older I got the more freedom to come and go I had and then I learned all about the Knight of Columbus Hall. My years in high school would not have been the same without this place....The Crucified, Applehead, Knucklehead, Scatered Few, Checkmate, Let's Go Bowling...just to name a few of the bands that I would see. In high school I would cut class and go to Jim's work and chat him up (he worked at a produce company in Madera). We would talk about the band (Crucified and the blamed), the church (Calvary Chapel was in the Tower District at the time). I probably annoyed him but I appreciated him putting up with a dumb high school kid.
Truth is because of Wayne being my brother...so much of what I have been apart of in my life is because of his influence...The KGB, promoter, dj...all this stuff influenced me. The Crucified was part of all of this...
I am not trying to re-write there bio or anything like that this is just how I remember growing up with the guys that went on to become the Crucified.
They were more then just a band....they were my childhood!!
Thanks for the memories!!
